Selected by Rümeysa, our coordinator at Inspera Art Academy, at this month’s Book Club meeting, we’ll be discussing Alain Badiou and Nicolas Truong’s *In Praise of Love* and Pablo Neruda’s *Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair*. As Badiou puts it: “Philosophy expects those who engage with it to be scholars, artists, activists, and lovers.” While Badiou calls us to step outside conventional assumptions, Neruda brings desire, longing, and heartbreak to life in verse. Between philosophy’s language—which compels us to think—and poetry’s form—which defies containment in words—we will discuss together how love is not merely something that “happens to us,” but rather a matter to be contemplated, interpreted, and even resisted.

Our event, which will take place on Tuesday, November 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Inspera Bookstore, is free and space is limited.
What is love, and what does it do to us? We welcome anyone who would like to join us in seeking answers to this question through the words of philosophers and the verses of poets.
