How far can you run in five minutes?
Written by Palestinian author and actress Khawla Ibraheem, directed by Ali Haydar Çataltepe and brought to the stage through a solo performance by Nihal Yalçın, *Knocking on the Roof* is a striking narrative that shows how war has devastated everyday life.
The play, which takes its name from the "warning shot" fired at rooftops to evacuate buildings before a bombardment—giving residents only a few minutes to escape— centers on the escape drills that Meryem, a resident of Gaza, repeats ceaselessly in an effort to save her son.
Following its success at the Edinburgh Fringe, *Tap on the Roof* was staged at the New York Theatre Workshop and the Royal Court Theatre, brings to the stage—through the lens of a mother’s daily life—the human story hidden behind grand political narratives, establishing itself as one of contemporary theater’s most compelling solo plays.
* Warning: The play contains themes of war, violence, and psychologically distressing content.
